Identity theft scams are common in the USA and it happens often in banks, where people cashes checks that don’t belong to them. T&T Worldwide detected this opportunity and contacted us to design an electronic device that offers different ways to verify person’s identity with a new set of technology. I managed the whole design process working with the internal cross-functional team of T&T Worldwide, facilitating a design research in banks, where I observed this kind of products being used in real situations.

  • The design intention was to create an easy to use device that conveys trustability, safety and innovation.

I made different user’s research with cashiers in banks to understand the context and the way they use similar products. A key insight I got from the research was:

“a colleague paid a check to the wrong person, and we couldn’t identify the scammer, because what you could only see in the photo was his chest”.

Scopio has two cameras: a front one to shot the person’s face and a horizontal one to shot checks, documents and cards. It also has a smart card reader and USB ports to plug external fingerprint reader, providing different levels of safety.
